Private
Private clients are those who do not have a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan and will be paying $240 out of pocket per 46-60 minute session with their psychologist.
Mental Health Treatment Plans (Medicare)
Each calendar year, you may be entitled to 6-10* sessions under the Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP; formerly known as a Mental Health Care Plan). You must provide a valid referral from your General Practitioner (GP) or Psychiatrist who will allocate 6 initial sessions with the psychologist, before reviewing your eligibility for further sessions. Please note rebates cannot be given beyond the amount of sessions allocated by your GP. It is beneficial to involve your GP so they are informed about your treatment and recovery during this time.
These sessions can be via telehealth or face-to-face consultations in our clinic.
If you are able to access the MHTP, you will be entitled to receive a rebate of $96.65 from Medicare. On the date of your appointment, sessions need to be paid in full ($240). The $96.65 rebate will then be refunded into your nominated bank account by Medicare. Please ensure your bank account details are correct on your Medicare portal as Brain Balance Psychology is not liable for incorrect transactions. *Each individual is able to access 6 initial sessions with a psychologist. Depending on how treatment is progressing, your psychologist may recommend additional sessions to continue working with you on your treatment and recovery goals. Your GP can refer you for an additional 4 sessions which will total to 10 sessions.

Other Fees
Services which incur additional fees such as psychological assessments, support letters and reports will be discussed with you prior to administration and completion. Out of session correspondence is also subject to further fees. This can include detailed emails, phone calls, stakeholder meetings, liaising with other allied health professionals, general practitioners, psychiatrists, support staff, carers and family members.
This is billed at the standard $240 per hour rate for your psychologist's clinical expertise and time taken.
Additional fees are payable for reports, support letters, stakeholder meetings and other correspondence that is classified as "urgent" (i.e. due date set by the client or funder). These additional fees account for the out of hours overtime required to meet the deadline as a priority. It is not always possible or guaranteed that your psychologist can complete your request for additional services for a range of reasons such as annual leave, sick leave, or other client reports and emergencies. In this circumstance, you would not be charged the additional 'urgent' fee. Please provide your psychologist with as much notice as possible to complete your request, with a minimum of 2-4 weeks notice.
